A White Temple on gently sloping plateau in Lumbini, around 32 km from the border with India in Bihar west Champaran Distric, draws hundred of thousands of piligrims every year to read a sandstone pillar documenting Emperor Ashoka’s homage at the birth place of man, who become the Enlighten one.

The white temple was built in 1998 around the ruins of the shrine complex built by Ashoka, the 3rd century BC Mauryan emperor.
